Speaker

Ocean waves coming onto beach.
Liz Abess speaking at an event.

For decades, I believed it was my job to save the people I loved—especially my brother as he struggled with addiction. That belief shaped my relationships, my identity, and ultimately, my breaking point.

Today, I share that journey—and what it took to finally let go.

Through honest storytelling and practical insight, I help audiences understand the hidden patterns of overfunctioning, codependency, and relationship addiction. Together, we explore the complex connection between loving someone in crisis and losing yourself in the process.

My talks create a space where people feel seen, not judged—where hard truths are met with compassion, and awareness becomes the first step toward real change.

Audiences will walk away with:

  • A clear understanding of what codependency actually looks like in everyday relationships

  • Insight into the cycle between addiction and overfunctioning

  • Tools to begin setting healthier boundaries without guilt

  • Permission to shift from fixing others to reclaiming their own lives

Many arrive feeling overwhelmed, consumed by someone else’s struggles. They leave with something different: clarity, relief, and the beginning of hope.

You are not alone—and change is possible.
